www.playerhistory.com has been partially re-launched today, and the best thing that it is free (for the moment at least).
You can search players and view their careers, but competitions/matches do not work yet.

In case someone has not heard, the Playerhistory site has been definitely terminated some two months ago with no possibility of resurfacing. The cause is rumoured to be disagreements between the admin and the technical staff over programming site features.
